These terms apply to everyone who uses 8MDs at 8mds.independentcheck.co.uk, whether you’re reading as a visitor or signed in as a member. By using the site you agree to them, so please read them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
Who we are
8MDs is run by Independent Check Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 08302295), registered office Celtic House, Caxton Place, Cardiff CF23 8HA. You can reach us through our contact page.
What 8MDs is
8MDs is a free network for financial advisers, mortgage and protection advisers, accountants and solicitors who are adapting their firms to AI. It offers articles and guides, the New Model of Professional Advice, AI training courses with CPD certificates, the AI Workspace, webinars, news and introductions to other professionals and services.
Joining is free. We may change, add or withdraw parts of the site, and we’ll give members notice by email of any significant change to what membership includes.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over and give accurate details when you join, including a work email address where we ask for one.
- Your account is for you alone. Keep your password private and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account page.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we’ll tell you why first.
Nothing here is advice to you or your clients
Everything on 8MDs, including the New Model, articles, examples, calculators and course material, is general information for professionals. It isn’t financial, tax, legal or regulatory advice, and it doesn’t take account of any firm’s or client’s circumstances. Worked examples are illustrations, not recommendations.
You stay responsible for your own professional judgement, for meeting your regulator’s rules (for example the FCA, the SRA, ICAEW or ACCA), and for any advice you give. Take professional advice before acting on anything that matters to your firm.
Using the AI Workspace and the training chat
The Workspace and the lesson help chat use AI models from Anthropic. AI can be wrong, out of date or incomplete, even when it sounds confident. Check anything it tells you before you rely on it, and don’t use its answers as the only basis for advice to a client.
When you use them:
- Don’t enter your clients’ personal information, or anything confidential you don’t have the right to share. How the Workspace handles what you type is explained in our privacy policy.
- Don’t use them to do anything illegal or harmful, to break someone else’s rights, or to try to get around their safeguards.
- Don’t use automated tools to send requests, or share your access with anyone else.
To keep the Workspace free for everyone, we may set fair-use limits on how much each member can use it.
Training and CPD certificates
Our certificates record the modules you completed and the learning time we assign to them. It’s up to you, and your professional body, to decide how they count towards your continuing professional development and to keep your own records. Solicitors should note that the SRA doesn’t set a CPD hours requirement; you can use our courses as part of how you keep your competence up to date.
A certificate can be checked by anyone who has its certificate number. Please don’t share a certificate you didn’t earn, or alter one.
What you can do with our content
The articles, courses, guides, design and other material on 8MDs belong to Independent Check Ltd or the people who licensed them to us. You’re welcome to read them, share links to them, and quote short passages with a credit and a link back. Please don’t copy whole articles or courses, republish them, sell them, or use them to train an AI model, without our written permission.
Things you post
If you comment, fill in a form or send us something, it must be your own, lawful and polite. Don’t post anything defamatory, misleading, abusive or promotional. We may remove anything that breaks these rules. You keep ownership of what you post, and you give us permission to show it on the site.
Referrals and other websites
We link to other websites and introduce members to other professionals and services, such as MyPath2Retirement and Helena.finance. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them. We don’t control those services and aren’t responsible for them.
Donations
Donations are voluntary and help keep 8MDs free. They’re taken by card through Stripe. A donation doesn’t buy anything or give you extra access. If you’ve donated by mistake, contact us and we’ll look at it.
Keeping the site running
We work to keep 8MDs available and accurate, but we can’t promise it will always be available, free of errors or up to date. We may take it offline for maintenance or updates.
Please don’t try to break into the site or other members’ accounts, overload it, scrape it in bulk or upload anything harmful.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Apart from that, because 8MDs is a free service providing general information, we’re not responsible for any loss that comes from relying on its content or on AI-generated answers, or for business losses such as lost profits, clients or opportunities. If you’re a consumer rather than using 8MDs for your work, your legal rights as a consumer aren’t affected.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes. The date below shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects members, we’ll tell you by email before it takes effect.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
