We want everyone who uses 8MDs to be able to read it, find their way around it and use its tools, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This statement covers the 8MDs website at 8mds.independentcheck.co.uk.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. In practice that means:
- every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and links to skip straight to the main content or the footer
- the body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute to be easy to read for people with low vision
- text and background colours meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios, and the site has one light colour scheme with no low-contrast grey text
- pages work at any width from a small phone upwards and when zoomed to 400%, without sideways scrolling
- if your device is set to reduce motion, the site switches off its animations and transitions
- images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers
- form fields have visible labels, so it’s clear what each one is for
How we tested it
On 30 September 2026 we ran the axe accessibility checker, set to the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, on the home page, the New Model pages, the profession hubs, the Library, News, AI training, Referrals, Contact, sign-in, About and error pages. It found no failures. Text placed over photographs can’t be checked automatically, so we checked it by eye, and every page was also checked at phone, tablet and desktop widths.
What we know isn’t perfect yet
- Some older articles in the Library were written before this version of the site and may have images without useful descriptions. We’re reviewing them.
- Webinar recordings and other videos are hosted on YouTube, and not all of them have checked captions yet. Where a video has only YouTube’s automatic captions, they may contain mistakes.
- The AI Workspace and the AI training courses are separate applications inside the site. They weren’t part of the test above, and we’re checking them next.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something on 8MDs that you can’t use, or you need information in a different format, please get in touch through our contact page. Tell us the page address and what went wrong, and we’ll get back to you and look at putting it right.
